Refractory castable is a kind of unshaped refractory material, which is adopted by more and more enterprises because of its superior performance, convenient construction and suitability for different parts. So many thermal fields are using refractory castables, and many problems will inevitably occur during construction.

The castables are mostly dry materials, which need to be mixed with water during construction. The amount of water added can directly affect the performance of the castables, which is also one of the most important links in the construction of castables. When the amount of water added is OK, the castable mixture will also have no fluidity and loose materials. This problem is mostly caused by the following points.

1. Number of refractory powders
The refractory powder is the matrix material in the unshaped refractory material. The fineness (mesh) is required to be between 140 mesh and 200 mesh, and cannot be larger than 200 mesh. If the powder is too fine, the overall water absorption of the castable will be large. The flow is loose and unable to condense. Affect the final properties of the castable.
2. Particle gradation of refractory aggregate
In the castable, the refractory aggregate acts as a skeleton, and the dosage is between 65-73%. In fact, the overall amount of aggregate is still well controlled, but the particle gradation is particularly important. Under normal circumstances, the size of aggregate particles is generally 0-3mm, 3-5mm, 5-8mm, 10-15mm. Generally speaking, the aggregate gradation must be large or small (large aggregate accounts for the bone 60-65% of the total amount of aggregate, and fine aggregate accounts for 35-40% of the aggregate). The ideal particle size distribution is that the voids created by the coarse aggregate are just filled by the fine aggregates, and the voids between the two are just filled by the powder. If the gradation of large and small aggregate particles is unreasonable, it will cause the castable to have no fluidity.
